OWL Readathon- April 2019

Let’s start this off with an edit because I was so excited to get to writing I forgot to put that this is hosted by the lovely G over at Book Roast. She puts in an amazing amount of work toward this readathon and I’m in awe. She put together a packet of all the careers and prompts and so many other things. So go show her some major love!

I’ve decided to do the Curse Breaker track which means for the OWLs I need to read from certain categories. Some of these I have other books I may read instead because I’m a major mood reader but these are what I’m currently leaning toward. I also decided to make a TBR for the other prompts as well.

Ancient Ruins (retelling)- Mermaid by Carolyn Turgeon– A retelling of the Little Mermaid.

Arithmancy (more than one author)- New Power by Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms– I’ve been craving some nonfiction and this one talks about why some things go viral and why other things don’t.

Charms (an adult book)- My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite– This is the buddy read Amy picked for the month so my copy is currently on hold and will hopefully get here with good timing. Otherwise I’m going to read Daisy Jones for this.

Defense Against The Dark Arts (title starting with “R”)- I am thinking I will read The Real Lolita by Sarah Weinman but I may also read Reincarnation Blues or Raven Black.

Potions (sequel)- Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo– I put this on hold as soon as I was over halfway through the first one. However, I am in the middle of a couple series rereads so I may pick from those as well.

Transfiguration (sprayed edges or red cover)- The Library Book by Susan Orlean– This will probably be my first read because the author is coming to town so I’m hoping to be able to go to that and I want to read it first.

Other prompts

Astronomy (“star” in the title)- Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas– I wasn’t planning on reading this but it’s short, my library has a copy and it has star in the title. I looked on a couple lists and this was the only one that I really thought about reading.

Care of Magical Creatures (land animal on the cover)- Alice by Christina Henry– What happens when Alice wakes up on a hospital and doesn’t remember much. The rabbit is waiting….

Divination (set in the future)- The Time Machine by H.G. Wells– This was actually the hardest prompt (besides Astronomy) to fulfill. And then I was looking on lists and I never actually read the synopsis. Enter my shock when I find out this takes place in year 802,701.

Herbology (Plant on the Cover)- Bad Order by B.B. Ullman– This is an ARC I have to get to before June. It’s pitched as Stranger Things mixed with A Wrinkle in Time.

History of Magic (A book over 10 years old)- This was very very easy to find. I have a couple different options but my top option is Anthem by Ayn Rand because I have the audiobook right now.

Muggle Studies (Contemporary)- When You Read This by Mary Adkins– From my ARC pile of shame… And even worse it’s written mainly in emails and I feel like it’s going to be such a fast read.

Are you doing the OWL readathon? Feel free to leave links to your TBR!

  1. Oh yay glad it came in so fast. I was bummed cause my library has way too many holds for me to get the physical book. So I’ll prob just aim to read/listen on scribd.

Let's talk!
