The more I think about this the sadder I get that I only have five years before I’m 30. But also 30 isn’t even old? That’s just society telling us when we’re in our 20s we’re in our prime.
I attempted to curate a list of novels I want to read before I turn 30 and in doing so I tried not to repeat authors. Some authors I’ve read before and I want to read more of, others are books I want to read and have been putting off, some are new releases I was really excited to get to and the hype died down. I did try to make this list only books I own because I own a ton I don’t need to add more to my list right now.
Anyway, aside from that commentary here are some books I want to read before I’m 30 (also I do own all of these):
- The Stand by Stephen King
- One Second After by William R. Forstchen
- The Suble Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Marn Manson
- The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
- Don Quixote by Cervantes
- Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (I’ve read two)
- The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu
- The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
- The Man in the Moss by PHil Rickman
- Koko by Peter Straub
- Alone Together by Sherry Turkle
- Defying Reality by David Ewalt
- Picture of Dorrian Gray by Oscar Wilde
- After Dark by Haruki Murakami
- A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
- House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielwski
- Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri
- The Fireman by Joe Hill
- Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz
- Psycho by Robert Bloch
- Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
- Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
- The Unhonneymooners by Christina Lauren
- The House Swap by Rebecca Fleet
- Night Film by Marisha Pressl
- 84K by Claire North
- Recursion by Blake Crouch
- Never Look Away by Linwood Barclay
- Hit Refresh by Satya Nadella, Greg Shaw and Jill Traie Hichols
- When They Call You A Terrorist by Patrisse Khan-Cullors & Asha Bandele
So me being the nerd I am calculated how many months I have and if I did it correctly I have 56 months. So if I read one a month, two for longer works I should be golden. Maybe do an update once a quarter? Maybe I’ll make this into a blog post series somehow.
Wow. I have not read any of these except for the Chronicles of Narnia that my mom read to me as a kid. Interesting list! I think that’s a great goal for your 30th birthday.

The Stand, Picture of Dorian Gray, House of Leaves, and The Fireman are all ones I read and really enjoyed. I want to read Prodigal Son and the rest of the Narnia book as well.
