30 books to read before I’m 30

The more I think about this the sadder I get that I only have five years before I’m 30. But also 30 isn’t even old? That’s just society telling us when we’re in our 20s we’re in our prime.

I attempted to curate a list of novels I want to read before I turn 30 and in doing so I tried not to repeat authors. Some authors I’ve read before and I want to read more of, others are books I want to read and have been putting off, some are new releases I was really excited to get to and the hype died down. I did try to make this list only books I own because I own a ton I don’t need to add more to my list right now.

Anyway, aside from that commentary here are some books I want to read before I’m 30 (also I do own all of these):

  1. The Stand by Stephen King
  2. One Second After by William R. Forstchen
  3. The Suble Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Marn Manson
  4. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
  5. Don Quixote by Cervantes
  6. Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis (I’ve read two)
  7. The Three-Body Problem by Cixin Liu
  8. The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
  9. The Man in the Moss by PHil Rickman
  10. Koko by Peter Straub
  11. Alone Together by Sherry Turkle
  12. Defying Reality by David Ewalt
  13. Picture of Dorrian Gray by Oscar Wilde
  14. After Dark by Haruki Murakami
  15. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
  16. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielwski
  17. Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri
  18. The Fireman by Joe Hill
  19. Prodigal Son by Dean Koontz
  20. Psycho by Robert Bloch
  21. Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
  22. Lock Every Door by Riley Sager
  23. The Unhonneymooners by Christina Lauren
  24. The House Swap by Rebecca Fleet
  25. Night Film by Marisha Pressl
  26. 84K by Claire North
  27. Recursion by Blake Crouch
  28. Never Look Away by Linwood Barclay
  29. Hit Refresh by Satya Nadella, Greg Shaw and Jill Traie Hichols
  30. When They Call You A Terrorist by Patrisse Khan-Cullors & Asha Bandele

So me being the nerd I am calculated how many months I have and if I did it correctly I have 56 months. So if I read one a month, two for longer works I should be golden. Maybe do an update once a quarter? Maybe I’ll make this into a blog post series somehow.

  1. Wow. I have not read any of these except for the Chronicles of Narnia that my mom read to me as a kid. Interesting list! I think that’s a great goal for your 30th birthday.

  2. The Stand, Picture of Dorian Gray, House of Leaves, and The Fireman are all ones I read and really enjoyed. I want to read Prodigal Son and the rest of the Narnia book as well.

Let's talk!
