Last night concluded the Stay Home Reading Rush, a readathon that lasted for the past four days. I actually only read for three of the four days because on Thursday I was not in the mood to read anything really.
Friday and Saturday I read The Unhoneymooners by Christina Henry. Early in the first chapter I realized the future love interest is actually her brother-in-law’s brother and that was weirdly in the back of my mind the entire book. I think if it had been any other person as the love interest I would have loved it but that’s just really weird to me.
My other main gripe is that the main character talks about how she’s unlucky but then she also focuses on that, which draws that energy to her. She grew throughout the book and became a more positive person throughout.
Prompts completed: Somewhere I wish I could go, reading in the same room the entire time and makes me smile
Saturday and Sunday I read Evvie Drake Starts Over by Linda Holmes, which was not on my original TBR but I wasn’t in the mood to read The Bear and the Nightingale so I took a couple hours to find a book with a house on the cover that sounded good.
Overall this was an enjoyable read. My main problem was that it seemed forced at times and something was just missing from the romantic relationship to make it believable. The friends and family were fine though. While reading it, especially toward the end it seemed like it might have been super therapeutic to write and I think people in that situation might find it relatable.

I’ve not read either of these but I was thinking of maybe reading The Unhoneymooners. But I think that the love interest being her brother-in-law’s brother is a little weird.
I read Stalking Jack the Ripper and Monstress for this readathon.

I thought about DNF-ing it when I realized that but I bought my copy and it was one of my most anticipated in a long time.

Thank you! And right? I’m surprised no one mentioned it (that I saw) cause there was so much hype around it.

Thank you! I put off my class work for a couple days so that’s what I’ll be doing today.

Tbh I wouldn’t have picked it up if I had known. There are a lot of things I can get over but that’s not one of them.

I participated but only managed to read 1/3 books!

I haven’t read either of those books. Yeah, the idea of the first book’s love interest would take me out of the story interest wise as well.

Well done on completing the Reading Rush TBR! I can totally see how the relationship thing would be a bit weird, that would put me off a bit too!

Congrats on completing so many of the challenges!! I tried to participate but because I had so much homework I only managed to read one book. But that’s more reading than I would normally get done, so I was happy!

I’ve never heard anyone mention that, but I think it’s important to say that about it aha!

I didn’t do the readathon, but congrats to you for doing it! Honestly, I think the choice of love interest in The Unhoneymooners IS a little distracting, I don’t blame you! lol
