May Readathons: Tome Topple and Bout of Books

I did three readathons in April: OWLs Readathon, Bout Of Books and Stay Home Reading Rush. I loved them all and knew while work is on pause I wanted to do more and get some of the intimidating books on my TBR. So I’ll be doing the Bout of Books and Tome Topple readathons.

I’m not going to separate the two readathons I’m doing because they’re the same week.

The Bout of Books readathon is organized by Amanda Shofner and Kelly Rubidoux Apple. It’s a weeklong readathon that begins 12:01am Monday, May 11th and runs through Sunday, May 17th in YOUR time zone. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are daily challenges, Twitter chats, and exclusive Instagram challenges, but they’re all completely optional. For Bout of Books 28 information and updates, visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Bout of Books is one I do as often as possible. Unfortunately I had to skip the last two due to jobs and moving but this is my 10th! I’m officially in the double digits.

Tome Topple Readathon will be taking place from midnight in your time zone on May 9th to 11:59pm in your time zone on May 22nd! There are prompts and levels but the important part is that one book can only count for two prompts.

May 11th-May 17th

These are the dates the two readathons overlapped. I never have a rhyme or reason for how I do my Bout Of Books TBR but normally I end up counting the pages at the end. For this reason I’m going to try to read an entire tome in this week and I’ve decided it’s going to be Outlander since that’s the one I’m most excited for. This also fits the one tome and a tome from a genre I don’t read. If I finish that I’m just going to continue on with my tome from the 9th/10th.

The rest of Tome Topple

The rest of the Tome Topple I’m planning to read at least one other book. Maybe two but I’m not going to stress out to get book number three done.

I have so many possibilities but not enough to cover all of the prompts. I get audiobooks from my library and I don’t own any AAPI books (yes, I am hanging my head in shame). Many of my other tomes can cover multiple prompts so here’s the list of tomes I own/ have physical copies of that are options.

  1. Insomnia by Stephen King
  2. The Fall by Neal Stephenson
  3. The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
  4. Leviathan Wakes by James A. Corey
  5. 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster
  6. Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin
  7. The Institute by Stephen King
  8. El Cartero by Zane Cray
  9. Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness (reread)

Does anyone have any recommendations for good audiobooks or AAIP books?

  1. If your a fan of Stephen King, IT is really good on Audible. It’s really long but the narrator is amazing! Let me know what you think of Insomnia and The Institute.

  2. I can comment now! Woohoo! I hope you enjoy Outlander. I ordered the 6th book a week or so ago and I might end up picking it up this month. I always forget how much I fall into the series once I am vested. The Institute I enjoyed and I have been wanting to read Game of Thrones just to give it a go one day.

  3. Good luck for your reading month and the readathons! I haven’t heard of many of these books, I hope you enjoy them all!

  4. I’m glad. I don’t know if you watch Read with Cindy’s booktube channel, but she hosts the Asian Readathon and has a Google Doc with loads of Asian authors. I was just going through it and there are so so many Asian authors I had never heard of.

  5. Good luck!! I’m gonna look into the Bout of Books readathon. Since I’ve been hearing more about all the different readathons people participate in I’ve been itching to try one out!

Let's talk!
